Are you about ready to give up on antidepressant treatment?

Have you tried more medications than you would have liked? Experienced one side effect after the next?

Has your current treatment left you stuck in a perpetual state of depression - just enough better that you are too scared to stop it, but far from actually happy?

Do you remember what it is like to feel WELL?

Don’t allow hopelessness or discouragement over failed treatment attempts rob you or your loved one of a chance at recovery!  Helping patients get well and obtain a better quality of life is our mission.
Approximately 14 million people in the U.S. live with depression.  Although numerous medications and forms of psychotherapy are available for the treatment of depression, research shows that less than half of those who begin a single course of treatment will improve substantially, and only a third will obtain complete wellness.  Unfortunately, the chance of obtaining full recovery diminishes with each medication trial.  Undesirable side effects, like weight gain, forgetfulness, and sexual side effects, commonly lead to treatment discontinuation. Though medications remain our first line treatment in most cases, when medications do not provide the desired result, we must consider additional options.

Martha St. John, MD at the Progressive Psychiatry TMS Center is one of few psychiatrists in Houston performing NeuroStar TMS Therapy.  Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive, non-drug treatment approved by the FDA for adult patients with major depressive disorder who have not benefitted from prior antidepressant medication.  TMS utilizes precisely targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate the areas of the brain involved in depression and naturally release chemicals, or neurotransmitters, like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.

Approximately three out of four (> 75%) patients treated with TMS at PPTC experience a significant improvement in symptoms and two out of three (66%) experience complete remission of symptoms.
